Turnabout Makes a Good Anecdote
Interesting anecdote:
An acquaintance of mine from college had lunch recently with a man named Jim, who recounted a story about the time a mugger had pulled a knife on him– but was met with a rude surprise when Jim promptly pulled out his own .357 Magnum. Jim then demanded that the mugger hand over his money instead (totalling $283) and that the man take off his clothes. After taking everything off the man, Jim told him to run away, then called the police. They found the naked man hiding in a box in the rear of an alley. The police let Jim keep the money he had taken off the mugger, since, well, “It wasn’t his money anyway.”
Still not enough to persuade me about the virtues of gun ownership, but as my acquaintance commented: “It takes a truly crazy man to have the presence of mind to mug a mugger.”
